The Nicaraguan scenery of the Pacific is marked by an impressive chain of 25 volcanoes that go across this region of the country. Some of these volcanoes are still active and their spectacular eruptions scare the people that live there.

The Region of the Pacific of Nicaragua, presents/displays a Volcanic Chain that forms a line of cones and craters, extend from the Peninsula of Cosigüina to the West, to the Island of Ometepe to the South. This alignment must to that the Volcanos are arranged throughout the crack, fractures or fault that breaks the terrestrial crust until the depth of 10 kilometers where the magma is. Throughout the Volcanic Chain are active Volcanos, being these:

a) General performances

Latitude: 12,70 N, Length: 87.02º Or, Height: 1745 msnm.

He is estratovolcán, located in the Department of Chinandega, to 150 km of Managua. In his eruptiva history it has had 9 eruptions from the time of the Conquest. The volcanic complex San Cristóbal is made up of volcanos: Volcano San Cristóbal, Volcano Small house, Mocintepe Hill, the craters the Jewel and Volcano the Chonco. The type of eruptions has been mainly Estromboliano to Sub-Pliniano.

b) Eruptiva history

1685 - It presented/displayed noticeable eruptiva activity.

1919 - In August it produced rumblings and slight earthquakes in their neighborhoods felt.

1971 - During the month of May it produced rumblings and explosions.

1976 - At the beginning of March, discharges and continuous columns of smoke were leaving their crater, simultaneously that took place slight earthquakes and happened explosions every three minutes.

1986 - When finalizing the year noticeable gas expulsion was observed.

1987 - To principle of the year it was throwing great amounts of gases.

1997 - May it entered new eruptivo period sending gases, ash, sand and producing slight earthquakes.
